IRC NANO is pioneering fundamental and applied research in materials physics and chemistry – advancing the science of nanomaterials and translating it into breakthrough functional innovations. We strengthen Ukrainian participation in European and international research networks, and communicate frontier discoveries to broad audiences.
Grounded in a deep tradition of materials physics and active international collaborations, we explore the interplay between hard- and soft-bonded material systems, driving new paradigms at the convergence of crystalline and molecular matter. A diverse and growing research portfolio ensures both scientific ambition and long-term sustainability.
From a compact core of excellence, IRC NANO is evolving into a full-scale international research centre – supported by academic institutions and local companies with deep roots in nanomaterials manufacturing, alongside leading R&D groups developing real-world applications
IRC NANO is built on a distinctive scientific vision: the convergence of two fundamental states of matter – hard-bonded material systems, typically crystalline, with interatomic bond energies above 1 eV, and soft-bonded systems, where interatomic and intermolecular forces fall below 0.1 eV.
This convergence unlocks a vast design space of new nanostructures, yielding materials with fundamentally different architectures and outstanding functional properties.
